Heroes of the Bible Featured in Shannon Bream Book
The heroes of the Bible still have powerful lessons for Christians today. Fox News host Shannon Bream shares some of these stories in her new book, “Nothing Is Impossible with God: Eleven Heroes. One God. Endless Lessons in Overcoming.”
“I wanted to really devote some time to them, because they all have this thread of overcoming,” she said in an interview on CBN. “And sometimes, it’s external things coming at them; sometimes it’s their own internal rebellion. We’ve all dealt with that. Maybe it’s self-doubt, maybe it’s fear, maybe it’s loneliness.”
The stories in the book are as relevant today as they were in biblical times.
“These stories have always resonated with me with that common thread of overcoming something,” Bream said. “So I thought I want to include ones that do come from across the spectrum, because I think they’re all just so relatable to things that we walk through now. Maybe we’re not going to be Gideon actually leading an army into battle. It may feel like that sometimes, though, with what you have going on in life.
“But whether it’s a financial battle, a broken family, a bad diagnosis, the death of a loved one, all of those things are never a surprise to God. And I think he gives us the grace of seeing other people walk through those things.”
Ultimately, Bream wants to bring encouragement to others through seeing these things unfold and applying the lessons to their own lives.
“You think about Moses, and we know he was the writer of what’s known as the Torah, or those first five books of the Old Testament,” she said. “So every time he’s talking about his own failures, I have to stop and remind myself, ‘Moses was writing this. He was writing this down and saying, like, `this is where I got this wrong. This is where I disobeyed. This is where I argued with God.’”
Bream encourages people to turn to prayer in their own lives, comparing it to a personal conversation that can be engaged in traffic, in the shower, while cooking or while doing any other activity. “Just knowing he’s listening to that, it doesn’t have to be formal,” she said. “You don’t have to be sitting in a pew. God is just waiting to be in conversation with you anytime.”
