Kelsey Grammer Opens Up on Abortions and Regret

Says abortions in his past “eats away at my soul”

Kelsey Grammer, known for his roles in “Frasier” and “Jesus Revolution,” has spoken candidly about his experience with abortions and the regret that has followed him for decades. In his new memoir “Karen: A Brother Remembers,” Grammer reveals, “I know that many people do not have a problem with abortion, and though I have supported it in the past, it eats away at my soul.” His personal account brings to light the emotional complexity surrounding the abortion debate, a topic that continues to be at the forefront of American cultural and political conversations.

“I know that many people do not have a problem with abortion, and though I have supported it in the past, it eats away at my soul,” he writes.

Grammer said his girlfriend became pregnant in 1974 while he was attending The Juilliard School. “I never wanted her to accuse me of being unwilling to have the child, but I also did not plead with her to save his life,” he wrote. “I supported the idea that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her own body. I still do. But it was hard for me. Still is. A child’s right to exist? Of course.”

Grammer is critical of doctors who perform abortions. “I have no idea how they call themselves doctors,” he wrote.

Next, the star of “Cheers” and “Frasier” recalled a situation where his current wife, Kate, was pregnant with twins and was advised by doctors to abort one child to save the other when his unborn son’s sac ruptured in utero. The couple decided to go ahead with an abortion of one twin .Later, Grammer’s daughter, Faith, was born healthy.

“We killed him,” he wrote. “Our son. We killed our son so Faith might live. We wept as we watched his heart stop. Saw it. It is the greatest pain I have known.”.

Grammer has been married four times and has seven children and one grandchild. He is among the few major Hollywood celebrities who openly support conservatives and Republican political candidates, including President Donald Trump. His new memoir details the rape and murder of his younger sister, Karen.
