Tori Foles, the wife of Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles, announced on Instagram that she suffered a miscarriage this past weekend. She said they were about 15 weeks pregnant with their second baby, but she went into sudden labor and soon learned they had miscarried their baby boy.
“We’ve endured some unique challenges as a couple so far, but never quite knew what something like this felt like and now we do,” Tori wrote. “The emotions go back and forth from immense and overwhelming sadness, confusion and anger to a firm belief that God has this fully in his hands and will use this for good. We cannot always understand or explain, but we know that is true.”
Nick posted Tori’s Instagram post on Twitter and stated they are “grateful for all the love, support and prayers.”
In the post, Nick referenced 2 Corinthians 12:9, which reads, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Nick missed some ofthe team’s OTAs, and Jaguars coach Doug Marrone explained it was “a personal situation.” Nick and Tori were at Baptist Beaches hospital in Jacksonville for four days.
“We are finally home from the hospital and recovering physically from the infection with antibiotics (already much better) as well as emotionally from this traumatic loss,” Tori wrote. “This will take time. So many thanks to everyone who has reached out to us and who has been praying for us.”
Foles, the Super Bowl LII MVP with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, signed with the Jaguars this past March, agreeing to a four-year, $91 million contract.
NFL players Benjamin Watson and Russell Wilson were among the many to share their prayers for Nick and Tori on Twitter.
