Vandals are damaging signs opposing Amendment 3 which seeks to abolish Missouri’s prolife laws.
The destruction isn’t related to signs in the lawns of homes, now vandals have damaged several signs outside St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Blue Springs.
“People can look at it as a political battle, Democrat vs. Republican, blue vs. red, but it really is a moral battle, and it’s always been,” Pastor Richard Rocha told KCTV-5. “The first thing I thought of, aside from who did this and how dare them, was to pray, because it’s someone who really could be hurting from something and lashing out. We prayed and we prayed at mass, at holy mass, for those who vandalized our property, our signs.”

The vandalism occurred as the church recognized October’s Respect Life Month.
“We pray for an end to abortion, we pray for respecting life all throughout the year, but the month of October is the special emphasis,” Rocha said.
The church is working with the Blue Springs Police Department and may set up security cameras to deter future vandalism. Meanwhile, Wes Fowler, executive director of the Missouri Baptist Convention, and Brent Leatherwood, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, encouraged Missourians to vote against Amendment 3.
“To be clear: Asking for the ability to even take one innocent life should be seen as an unacceptable price for Missouri,” they wrote. “But pro-abortion-rights forces and their extreme allies are hoping to usher in a new era that goes far beyond that. This is because to eviscerate the current pro-child protections in state law is to strike at the very heart of what it means to be human — and doing so at our earliest and most vulnerable stages. If backers of the amendment can get you to accept this premise, then the guardrails are obliterated for additional extreme ideas about marriage, children, family, gender and sexuality.
“We should not be naive about the financial incentives driving all this as well. The nation’s largest abortion provider reports revenue in the billions. And that is without the ability to do its monstrous activities in Missouri and other states where precious lives are protected and their mothers are supported.”
There was a sharp rise in attacks on churches after the Supreme Court returned to the states the decisions regarding abortion.
