Icebergs beware, a replica of the famous ship Titanic will make the same voyage in 2022
Titanic II plans to take on 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members to match almost exactly the amount of people aboard the original
ship. It’s also going to include the same cabin layout as its predecessor. For those feeling a bit superstitious or anxious about any possible icebergs, this Titanic will include enough lifeboats and life-jackets for everyone — and obviously feature much more advanced safety technology.
Sure, this new Titanic won’t have Kate Winslet or Leonardo DiCaprio on its decks, but it gives fans the opportunity to feel what Jack felt standing on the edge of the ship shouting, “I’m king of the world!” Hopefully they won’t experience what its like to freeze in ice-cold water of the North Atlantic.
Before tracing the Titanic’s voyage across the icy North Atlantic, the Titanic II will offer a two-week trip from Dubai to Southampton, England. Then it will head from England to New York, before going on to host worldwide cruises.
“The ship will follow the original journey, carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, but she will also circumnavigate the globe, inspiring and enchanting people while attracting unrivaled attention, intrigue, and mystery in every port she visits,” the Blue Star Line’s chairman Clive Palmer said.
During the real sinking of the RMS Titanic, more than 1,500 people died, making up nearly two thirds of those on board. In the fictional Hollywood film, Jack died because Rose didn’t want to scoot over and make enough room on that door which clearly had room for two.
Work on the new Titanic, spearheaded by the Blue Star Line, halted in 2015 due to financial troubles, which prevented the ship from being ready for its initial launch date of 2016. The company revealed in September that the ship was still being completed in China, and it’s now set to make its debut in 2022, 110 years after the Titanic’s voyage. In total, the replica costs $500 million to create.
It’s unclear how much tickets will go for, but it’s likely there will be varying price ranges for those with new or old money like Rose, as well as those staying in the underbelly of the ship like Jack.
