City Union Mission has surpassed their goal for their primary fundraising campaign. The CELEBRATE HOPE: Reach Out to K.C.’s Poor or Homeless campaign raised $6,504,237, exceeding their goal of $6.5 million.
“Our God has provided for us in such a tremendous way through our community,” shared Chief Executive Officer Terry Megli. “Hundreds of individuals and groups collectively donated nearly half of our budget within a 120 day period! The selfless giving of our community will enable us to provide essential, life-changing services to our neighbors in need and for that, we are truly grateful.”
The annual campaign runs October 1 through January 31 with the goal of raising half of the Mission’s annual budget. This campaign provides funding for essential programs and services for the hungry, homeless, near-homeless and working-poor in the metro area. Contributions are used to provide basic needs including food, shelter, clothing and medical services, along with counseling and long-term Christian recovery programs, career development and job-placement assistance.
“The success of this campaign directly impacts our ability to care for poor and homeless men, women and children who turn to us in need every day,” Megli said. Currently, the Mission shelters an average of 360 men, women and children and serves more than 750 meals to shelter residents, guests and hungry members of the community every day. Clothing, medical care and other essential services are provided to thousands of homeless and hurting individuals each year.
“Today we pause to celebrate the success of our campaign with our generous community, aware of the challenges that lie ahead in meeting our remaining budgetary demands and the needs of those we serve,” Megli said. “Ongoing support from our partners will be greatly appreciated as together, we continue to care for the homeless and poor and build a stronger community.”
