Favorite dishes are as much a part of the Christmas season as trees and packages. Although nearly everyone enjoys turkey and the trimmings, each state also has several popular regional meals.
Three dishes closely associated with Missouri ranked among MissWish.com’s list of “America’s Favorite Modern Christmas Dishes for 2023.” The recipe and gift website run by Anna Young surveyed 3,000 people they describe as “foodies” to determine the distinct, regionally influenced dishes they plan to serve as Christmas and other holidays approach. Three choices from each state make the list which, naturally, totals 150 dishes.
- Among the entries and tops in Missouri: St. Louis-style ribs with a molasses barbecue sauce ranked ninth.
- Coming in at No. 60 was Kansas City strip steak with Ozark seasoning.
- And at No. 89 is another St. Louis regional favorite, toasted ravioli with marinara, which “blend(s) Italian American cuisine with Midwestern comfort,” as MissWish notes in a news release.
