Healing House KC will open 15th facility helping those in addiction recovery

Officials at Healing House KC in Kansas City announced today that it has acquired a 15th house in Kansas City’s Old Northeast to serve men that are in the organization’s advanced addiction recovery program.

Joye House is slated to open in mid-September 2024 to house men in Healing House’s Advanced Program who are working to overcome substance abuse disorder and other life-dominating barriers to long-term stability and reconciliation with family.

The ministry recently received a generous Community Impact donation from First Interstate First Interstate Bank.

The house is named in honor of the Bosma family, faithful donors, and volunteers at Healing House. “Joye Bosma was the family matriarch,” said Bobbi Jo Reed, founder and CEO. “We wanted to honor her legacy by naming it after her.”  Joye Bosma passed away in 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer. “She lived with an incredibly positive attitude and found joy each day. Her family continues to “Choose Joy” daily to honor her life.”

The house is the 15th property housing men and women in Healing House’s recovery programs, certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health and accredited by the National Alliance of Recovery Residences.

Participants accepted to the ministry start in a “Beginner Home” and progress to an “Advanced Home.” The Beginner Program focuses on onboarding, essential life skills, daily chores, and other foundational activities. Once they complete this stage, participants advance to the Advanced Program, where they secure employment, pay rent, save money, continue their recovery journey, and often reunite with family members.

While previous homes acquired by Healing House have required significant renovations, Joye House is nearly move-in ready and only needs cosmetic updates and furnishing. “It’s not a wreck!” Reed remarked. “No fire or tornado damage! Plus, we got it at a deeply discounted price.”

Healing House welcomes cash donations to assist with furnishing and equipping Joye House to be ready to receive its first occupants in September. For more information about Healing House KC and our innovative recovery programs, visit www.healinghousekc.org or contact contact@healinghousekc.org.
