The Dallas Cowboys NFL team announced Mike McCarthy has been named the new head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. McCarthy is a graduate of Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan and former long-time Packers coach during their 2009 Super Bowl victory.
McCarthy will be the ninth coach in Cowboys history.
Baker Athletic Director Nate Houser says the university and its sports program are excited by the news. “Seeing a Baker University alumnus lead one of the biggest sports franchises in the world is incredible and we wish Mike all the best on his journey towards another Super Bowl!”

McCarthy played football at Baker University in 1985 and 1986 before graduating from Baker in the spring of 1987 with a degree in business administration. In his time at Baker, McCarthy was an All-Conference tight end for the Wildcats while serving as a team captain throughout his senior season, where he helped lead the team to a National Runner-Up finish.
After Baker, McCarthy attended Fort Hays State University where he served as a graduate assistant for two seasons before taking a volunteer coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh. After two more seasons as a volunteer, McCarthy got his first full time position as a wide receivers coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Coach McCarthy then spent the next six years with the Kansas City Chiefs, serving as the Offensive Quality Control coach from 1993-1994, before taking over as the quarterbacks coach from 1995-1998. After a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers as the quarterbacks coach, McCarthy served as the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers.
The popular coach then got his first head coaching position with the Green Bay Packers in 2006, serving as the head coach until 2018. Over that span, he compiled a record of 125-77-2, with nine playoff appearances, including eight straight playoff appearances from 2009-2016.
With the new position, McCarthy now takes over a Cowboys team that posted a record of 8-8 in the 2019 season, finishing second in the NFC East behind the 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles.
