Resource Health Offers Love and Respect to Vulnerable Women

A woman was scared. She didn’t think she wanted to continue with her pregnancy and had little hope for her future. She came to Resource Health not once, not twice, but nine times to have a sonogram performed at no cost each time. During every visit, she was treated with love and respect, and ultimately decided to keep her baby. She enrolled in the parenting classes at Resource Health, had her child, and they are both thriving!

She is not alone. In 2024, 84% of clients who visited a clinic chose life after an ultrasound at Resource Health. This service is offered at all their locations: Lee’s Summit, Independence, the inner core of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Northland.

But another battle is brewing: the abortion pill. During the COVID pandemic, this option became readily available online at websites like Amazon.com. This abortion pill is now how approximately 80-85% of lives are being terminated. Alissa Gross, the Executive Director of Resource Health, believes that in the future, this number could rise to over 90%.

This pill can be accessed online and filled via mail-order prescription. It is mailed to the woman’s home, and she can take the pill in the privacy of her own home, with no one there to counsel her. Two pills must be taken: the first one acts to deprive the baby of oxygen, and the second pill causes the uterus to go into labor and expel the baby.

Due to these new developments, Resource Health established a virtual center at the end of 2022. Resource Health wants to encourage these women, before they take this pill, to walk through their doors, engage with the staff, and have a sonogram performed.

By expanding this virtual center and allowing women to talk to someone (you don’t have to speak to anyone to receive the abortion pill), it is hoped that even more lives can be saved.

Support: Resource Health is seeking churches to partner with women and children in a mentoring capacity. These churches would host baby showers for the women and journey with them to help them be discipled in the church. There are currently eight churches offering these services, and Resource Health continues to seek additional partners.

Service: Not only does Resource Health provide no-cost sonograms, but they also offer STI testing and treatment. They are seen as a resource surrounding all related health needs. Along with education (Mom Strong and Dad’s Matter), they can also provide counseling services and help connect their clients to other services as well.

Sponsorship: Resource Health hosts a celebratory event in September at Top Golf. If you’re interested, you can fill out the information on their website to learn more.

Future: Metro Voice News has just learned that Resource Health will be expanding its services to the state of Kansas. In the fall, they will be opening a center in DeSoto, Kansas, as the state has become an abortion destination, with abortions increasing 140%. The site will be easily accessible and conveniently located near the University of Kansas.

Metro Voice and Horn Law Foundation Challenge: To offer all services for the entire family (35% of clients have a father involved in Dad’s Matter programming), the cost is $100 per month or $1,200 per year. Consider donating at their partner portal: https://www.resourcehealthpartners.org/
