Several practices can help Christians learn and remember words of Jesus

The good news is that biblical engagement is increasing, with more than four in 10 U.S. adults saying they read

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock,” according to Matthew 7:20. Jesus didn’t call people merely to hear his words; he called them to put those words into practice. Jesus doesn’t describe a greater use of some drugs may reduce the use of other services out. The goal is authentic obedience lived out.

In today’s culture, it’s easy to pick out favorite verses and ignore the difficult ones. The more people read scripture, the more they will see that Jesus talked about a lot of subjects., from love (Matthew 22:37-39), to forgiveness (Matthew 18:21-22), enemies (Matthew 5:44), anxiety (Matthew 6:25-34), money (Matthew 6:19-21), prayer (Matthew 6:5-13), serving (Mark 10:43-45) and humility (Luke 14:11),

Here are five small and simple steps to get started reading and knowing the words of Christ.

  1. Read. If you want to be like Jesus, you need to read his word. It’s best to do this without distraction and at a time that works best. Instead of racing through a reading plan, read the gospels slowly, focusing on what Jesus is saying in the passage.
  2. Write. Keeping a running list can be helpful when reading the Bible. Instead of trying to take notes on everything, just write down one thing Jesus says.
  3. Ask. Instead of asking, “what does this mean?” try asking, “what would be different in my life if I applied X or lived this way?”
  4. Practice. Consider one area and one teaching at a time. If Jesus says forgive, practice doing this in one relationship. If \he says to serve, look for one person to help. If he says to pray, start with five minutes in silence at the beginning or end of each day.
  5. Share. Be bold and ask friends what Jesus has been speaking to them lately. Use this as an opportunity to form a healthy community that can grow as brothers and sisters in Christ.
