The Salvation Army of Kansas City will continue a longtime area holiday tradition with the return this month of its annual Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
Volunteer opportunities for the Thanksgiving Day Dinner are still available.
The dinner, which is open and free to the public, will be held Thursday, November 28 from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at The Salvation Army Linwood Center, located at 101 W. Linwood in Kansas City. The meal will include turkey and all the trimmings. More than 120 volunteers will assist with the on-site Thanksgiving Dinner from set-up to clean-up and 500-650 people are expected to attend.
Also on Thanksgiving Day, 140 volunteer drivers for The Salvation Army will deliver carry-out Thanksgiving meals to nearly 1,000 homebound and elderly individuals in the metro area.
“The Salvation Army’s annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner has become a holiday tradition for many people who enjoy the warm and festive atmosphere, good company and great food,” said Major Evie Diaz, with the group. “It’s also our most popular holiday volunteer event, with every shift filling up weeks in advance. Many people come year after year with their families to volunteer.”
