The National Prayer Altar was held at the Museum of the Bible in late October to unite Christians in prayer for the nation ahead of the election. Pastor James Ward Jr. of Insight Church near Chicago led the event.
“America’s future is at stake,” he said. “As responsible believers and citizens, we must consider the world that our children and grandchildren will inherit. At this moment, God’s people must come together and pray like never before to preserve our nation, to resist the forces of evil and see Americans turn to God.”
Ward said the vision for the National Prayer Altar is more than just a prayer meeting — it is a call to gather.
“I believe this is a time God is calling on us to gather, not just to pray in a disconnected way but for God’s people to come and stand in covenanted position before the Lord and with each other, and that’s the heart of National Prayer Altar,” he said.
Ward believes the Lord still moves when his people unite and intercede on behalf of a nation. The pastor also posted about the event on social media, stressing the importance of Jesus. “America doesn’t really need more books and blog articles written about Jesus, or more podcasts and more media shows that talk about Jesus, or more t-shirts to promote Jesus,” he said. “America needs Jesus.”
In a previous post, Ward stressed the importance of seeking the kingdom of God above human politics. “God doesn’t work through human politics,” he wrote. “Jesus didn’t call us to pray for political parties but to seek his kingdom. Let’s focus on advancing his truth in all we do.”
According to the ministry’s website, “it is our desire to not only gather for prayer and worship in person in our nation’s capital but to boldly stand before God as ambassadors for Christ on behalf of our nation, to renew America’s covenant with God. In scripture, we see the prophet Elijah confronting and defeating evil on Mount Carmel by rebuilding the altar of the Lord.”
