Healing House Kansas City Launches ‘Furnishing Hope’ Campaign to Reopen Men’s Recovery Home

Healing House Kansas City is asking residents to help furnish two men’s recovery homes as the nonprofit prepares to reopen one house and launch another later this year.

The organization announced its “Furnishing Hope” campaign ahead of the March reopening of Agape 1, its original men’s recovery home. A second men’s home is expected to open later in 2026.

Healing House currently operates 17 recovery homes and three apartment buildings across the Kansas City area, serving more than 220 residents each day. Leaders say that as they expand, the focus is not just on adding beds but on creating spaces that feel stable and dignified for men working to rebuild their lives.

“We are not looking to fill houses with leftover furniture,” said Bobbi Jo Reed, founder and CEO of Healing House. “We are creating real homes where men feel valued, respected, and part of a real community. When someone walks through our doors, we want it to feel like walking into your grandma’s house – warm, comfortable, and filled with love.”

Many residents arrive after periods of homelessness, incarceration or unstable housing. Reed said something as simple as a sturdy dining table or a solid wood dresser can send a message that they belong.

The nonprofit is seeking upright solid wood dressers, quality couches and chairs, flat-screen televisions, washers and dryers, dining tables, large kitchen appliances, grills and household supplies. Financial donations are also being accepted to purchase new items when necessary for safety and durability.

Healing House offers free pickup of donated items using its box truck. Donors can schedule a pickup by emailing Donations@healinghouseinc.net or calling (913) 633-6789.
