Kansans for Life warns about mailer falsely claiming Roger Marshall performed an abortion

The Kansans for Life Political Action Committee is warning voters about a mailer falsely claiming that Senate candidate Dr. Roger Marshall once performed an abortion. The mailer was sent by a Super PAC opposed to Marshall, who is an OB-GYN.

KFL cited several reasons why the claim is false:

  • First, the claim was made by one Twitter user who is a donor to pro-abortion Democrat senate candidate Barbara Bollier.
  • Second, the woman admitted the so-called abortion was done because of an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies occur when the embryo implants in the tiny fallopian tube and continues to grow there instead of in the womb. If not surgically interrupted, it grows until the tube bursts, causing serious and urgent hemorrhaging that threatens the mother’s life. The tiny preborn baby will also die, whether a physician intervenes to save the mother’s life or not.
  • Third, because of these severe consequences of ectopic pregnancy, no pro-life religious denomination or organization that we know of opposes emergency surgical intervention on these types of pregnancies in order to save the mother’s life.

The claim comes from a Twitter user who is a self-professed donor to
pro-abortion candidate for U.S. Senate Barbara Bollier. “The mailer is fake news,” KFL said in an email “When pro-lifers attack each other, Planned Parenthood wins.”

Marshall has delivered more than 5,000 babies and has never performed an abortion. He has a 100 percent pro-life voting record in Congress, is endorsed by Tony Perkins and other pro-life leaders, including Rep. Chris Smith, who is chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus.

“There are many Super PACs out there trying to muddy the water on this U.S. Senate race,” according to the KFL email. “As KFL PAC has maintained over the course of this election, there are many fine pro-life candidates running for the U.S. Senate seat and we should all be thankful for this. If you have any questions about what these groups are saying about any of the candidates, please contact us PAC@kfl.org or (800) 928-5433.”
