Kansas City’s 2.1 million metro residents are waking up to a mystery smoke blanketing the skies this morning.
The haze swept into Kansas City overnight and neither meteorologists, fire department officials or state health officials can figure out where it came from.
The hazey, cloudy, smoggy mess is expected to provide a spectacular sunrise though the health implications are yet undetermined.
Local fire departments are also mystified by the haze having attempted to locate the source but have so far been unsuccessful.
The KCMO Fire department even called local television stations to ask if their sky cams had picked up the source but so far, no one has an answer. Our overnight photographer caught up with crews as they were searching for this for well over an hour.
The smoke is beginning to affect some people and those with breathing difficulties may want to remain indoors this morning until warmer temperatures forecast for today cause the sky to clear.
