Christian Leaders Respond to Israeli Strikes on Iranian Regime

The world continues to react to Israel’s aggressive campaign to eliminate the ability of the Iranian regime to manufacture nuclear weapons. Several Christian leaders share their opinions on the attacks and what the military operation may mean to the future of the Middle East, as Israel’s actions have drawn widespread international attention and debate over regional security and the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

On Monday, Germany’s leader, speaking in unison with other members of the G7 meeting in Canada, defended Israel’s attacks on Iran, saying it was ‘dirty work Israel is doing for all of us’ and that the world should be grateful Israel is making the bold move.

Israel’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by Christian leaders.

Iranian regime a threat to people of faith

“This is a very serious matter, and Bible students should be paying close attention. The regime in Iran has long supported terrorism around the world — especially against Israel. They have been developing nuclear weapons for some time now, and their leaders have repeatedly threatened to use it to ‘wipe Israel off the face of the Earth.’ We must be in prayer, and we must walk closely with the Lord. These are perilous times, and we need spiritual discernment, courage and faith more than ever,” said Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship. Recent international reports have covered the scale and impact of Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

“When you consider the fact that Iran has officially adopted as one of its national aims, the elimination of Israel as a state, well, you can understand why Israel would take this kind of action. But as Christians, let’s understand there is a lot more at stake than just military armament or even the size of the military itself. We are looking at the fact that there are opposing worldviews here, and theology still matters. The Islamic Revolution was not a secular revolution, and Israel is considered to be the avowed enemy of Iran. Iran has declared itself the avowed enemy of Israel, because it is absolutely opposed to a Jewish state,” stated President Albert Mohler of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. The ongoing tensions between Israel and the Iranian regime have been widely reported and analyzed by global media.

Pray for Israel

“Pray for Israel. Pray for peace in the Middle East. Pray for an end to terrorism, totalitarianism and every ideology that exalts hatred over humanity. We stand for peace, justice and the protection of innocent lives,” said President Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. Many leaders have echoed calls for global peace and the protection of vulnerable communities amid rising violence.

“Today is a day to pray for Israel as attacks on Iran’s terrorist regime will likely result in counterattacks. For the sake of global peace, the protection of Israel and the national interest of America, Iran must never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. These are very dangerous days for the world. Sobering. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem as we stand with Israel,” said Pastor Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Ongoing U.S. policy discussions reflect the serious implications of Iran’s nuclear program for American and global security.
