Scripture makes clear that traditional families led by a mother and father are the foundation of strong society. Many say that foundation is under attack, perhaps as never before.
Social and political forces now seek to separate children from the family in the name of equality, author Kimberly Ellis writes in her new book, “The Invincible Family: Why the Global Campaign to Crush Motherhood and Fatherhood Can’t Win.” Globalists, who are now primarily socialists, and feminists see the family as perhaps their most formidable enemy. For socialists, the family is an obstacle to the full power of the progressive state. For feminists, the family denies what they consider female power and “independence.”
Additionally, socialists and feminists now have found an ally in the United Nations. With its global power and influence, it has joined the effort to undercut the authority of the family through a variety of means, most disturbingly through its initiatives promoting the so-called sexual rights of children.
“The socialist philosophy is essentially this: Eliminate the possibility of inequality by suspending people’s exercise of free will regarding the use of their own property; confiscate the fruits of everyone’s labor to divvy out equally; and thereby secure sustenance and equality for all,” she wrote. “The outcome sounds nice. But anyone who has ever had a 2-year-old or a teenager knows this plan will never work. You cannot erase a person’s desire to direct his own destiny, even if you put him in a seemingly perfect, seemingly equitable system.”
In her book, Ells explores both why the globalization of antifamily policies threatens families in the United States and why there is hope that the alliance of feminists, socialists and liberals can be defeated. Ells is a researcher and writer on family issues, has worked as a policy advisor for the past nine years and has written for several leading conservative publications.
