Social Security Launches New Phone Claims System With Anti-Fraud Technology

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is rolling out groundbreaking improvements to its telephone claims system, marking a significant advancement in customer service and fraud prevention. Starting April 14, 2025, the agency will enable all types of claims to be completed by phone, backed by sophisticated anti-fraud technology, according to the official SSA announcement.

“We are modernizing how we serve the public—enhancing both security and accessibility,” said Leland Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “These updates improve our ability to detect and prevent fraud while providing more flexible options for people to access their benefits.”

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) praised the initiative, noting that “additional funding will allow the Social Security Administration to ensure full implementation” of modern services for all beneficiaries. “This represents a crucial step forward in modernizing our social safety net,” he added.

The enhanced system employs state-of-the-art technology to analyze patterns and anomalies within accounts, identifying potential suspicious activity during telephone claims, as reported by Fox Carolina. If irregularities are detected, individuals will undergo in-person identity verification to ensure claim security. This dual approach maintains program integrity while expanding access for those unable to file online or visit offices in person.

To support this initiative, SSA invested $16.5 million last month in modernizing its telephone infrastructure nationwide. The agency has also implemented surge capacity to handle increased demand when the program launches. These improvements align with SSA’s commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources while enhancing customer service.

The modernization effort comes as SSA employees return to full-time in-office operations, enabling the agency to better serve the public through multiple channels. The updated policy supports the Administration’s broader commitment to protecting Social Security and increasing seniors’ take-home pay by ending social security taxation.

“This modernization represents a significant step forward in making Social Security services more accessible while maintaining robust security measures,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren during a recent press briefing. “It’s exactly the kind of innovation our seniors deserve and expect in today’s digital age.”
