The occultic nature of this year’s Grammy Awards has garnered consternation from both secular and Christian circles.

Natalie Grant responded by walking out of the awards ceremony soon after singer Katy Perry, dressed as a witch and surrounded by demons and dressed in a cross, was burned at the stake.

Grant, who had been nominated for two awards, admitted she left early because what she witnessed conflicted with her Christian beliefs, stating, “We left the Grammy’s early. I’ve many thoughts, most of which are probably better left inside my head. But I’ll say this: I’ve never been more honored to sing about Jesus and for Jesus. And I’ve never been more sure of the path I’ve chosen.”

Perry, who has even received criticism in the music industry, was surrounded by demons as she danced around an upside down broomstick before being encircled by fire during a performance of her song “Dark Horse”. Perry wore clothing bearing an illuminated cross.

E! Online tweeted that Perry’s performance resembled “actual witchcraft”.

But negative response wasn’t limited to fellow entertainers or even the entertainment media. Former Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, who is preparing for the NFL Draft, tweeted his disgust in no uncertain terms. McCarron was watching the Grammys and felt that the “really demonic” performances showed that “there is a lot of evil in the world.”

McCarron tweeted: “Is it just me or are some of the Grammy performances so far seem to be really demonic?? Looks like there is a lot of evil in the world..”

McCarron later re-tweeted a response in which one of his followers wrote, “I know right?  I can only imagine what Katy’s Preacher Father is thinking.”

Combined with, perhaps the most soft-porn of any past Grammy production, parents groups and advertisers are asking for the network to reign in what many see as a free-for-all with simulated sex, profane language and now same-sex weddings being performed live.
