Metro Voice examines the Health Care Bill
By Dwight Widaman
With the continuing debate over President Obama’s and the Democrat Congress’ health care bill, voters are finding that information is power.
With a bill that will give the government control of, in addition to the nation’s banking and auto industry, over 1/6 of the nation’s economy, how can the average person understand what it really means to their family, their pocketbook, their future? What do we know about our neighbors across the ocean in the Middle East and North African Christian communities?
In the city of Cairo alone, a baby is born every 23 seconds, adding to a total growth rate of one million people per month in the Middle East. In the year 1900, Arab Christians made up about 20% of the local population. That number is now only about 4% across the region and continues to decrease in many areas. There are still sizable numbers of Christians in some countries, but many have limited or no access to discipleship or leadership training so local churches survive and thrive.
Americans Move to the Right on Moral Issues
NO CHANGE IN DEMOCRATS’ ATTITUDES ABOUT WHAT IS MORALLY ACCEPTABLE
According to Gallup's annual "moral acceptability" measure, updated in May, Americans have moved to the right on a handful of the 15 issues rated, including divorce, gambling, abortion and embryonic stem-cell research.
Polls: Majority of Americans are Pro-Life
A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves "pro-life" on the issue of abortion and only 42% "pro-choice." This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.
A New Revolution?

April 21, 2009 - Grassroots opposition to wasteful government spending and President Obama’s stimulus package culminated on April 15 with the biggest one-day protest so far. Fueled by groups such as the American Family Association (AFA), FairTaxKC and individual citizens, protestors will gathered in more than 1,000 U.S. cities for modern day “TEA (Taxed Enough Already) parties.” Kansas City’s two main events were at Liberty Memorial in Midtown Kansas City, and at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park.
Is Evangelicalism Dead?
By Michael Spencer
Editor’s Note: A recent column in a leading national newspaper has opened many eyes and created quite a controversy. We reprint it here to encourage thoughtful debate.
April 1, 2009 / Oneida, Ky. – We are on the verge – within 10 years – of a major collapse of evangelical Christianity. This breakdown will follow the deterioration of the mainline Protestant world and it will fundamentally alter the religious and cultural environment in the West.
