New Mexico Governor Defies Constitution

New Mexico Governor Michelle Grisham recently erred to such a degree that even her anti-gun friends are distancing themselves from her.

She recently issued a decree essentially making the carrying of a firearm—whether open or concealed—illegal in Albuquerque and the surrounding county for 30 days. She accomplished through an executive order claiming gun violence is “a public health crisis.”

Gov. Grisham’s executive order suspends the right to bear arms for 30 days even if one possesses a conceal and carry permit. She is blatantly ignoring the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of New Mexico.  Consequently, even liberal-leaning news outlets questioned her authority.  When asked by CNN if she has the authority to enact such a law she replied, “We’re gonna see. I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think I had the right. I have the right.” She goes on to say that “it’s a suspension—it’s not a ban.”

Questions began to emerge regarding who was to enforce this “public health order.” Reporters contacted the local sheriff’s office, asking if they were going to enforce the order. Sheriff John Allen stated, “I have a fact for you. Criminals do not follow the law or a public health order. Is there a realistic way to enforce this order? No, there is not, because it is unconstitutional.”

The New Mexico governor is also facing multiple lawsuits over her actions.

For me, this instance serves as a good reminder that your natural and God-given rights can be suspended any time someone in power decides they know what you need and deserve better than you do. This executive order is, of course, in direct violation of the 2ndAmendment of the United States Constitution. What Gov. Grisham is doing is not just unconstitutional, but is an outright abuse of power, and it shows her blatant disregard of the Constitutions of this great nation and the state of New Mexico.

Thomas Jefferson warned about such abuses of power: “When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty.”

  1. As was said “when the people fear the government ityranny , when the government fears the people its liberty” our founding fathers knew what they were doing. This IS the kind of government they warned us about. We have been warned and its time for We
The People to make a change in our government.
