The iconic Planters NUTmobile will make a stop in the area this week.
Planters fans will be able to grab a sample, take a “shell-fie” with the NUTmobile, and even meet Mr. Peanut himself.
The Planters NUTmobile is traveling America as part of a year-long tour around the country with the goal of spreading smiles and assisting in community service activities.
The NUTmobile is a unique vehicle with the outside curves made of pool noodles with fiberglass over them and can be a lot to handle on the road.
“We got extensive training from the Madison Police Department in Wisconsin. We have learned how to drive this in every situation. It’s a lot of fun. We get a lot of honks, waves and some people take photos, but it’s a really good time driving in the NUTmobile,” said Erin Sastre one of the drivers in the cross-country tour.
The pandemic has changed the route they’ll be taking.
“In a normal year, we would be doing big fairs, festivals, concerts, sporting events, stuff like that, events on a larger scale. This year we are focusing on community,” explained Shannon Hope, another driver.
As it travels across the country, drivers have volunteered at food banks, Meals on Wheels, senior centers, and nursing homes.
“They tell us those seniors haven’t been out of their living space for months, and we get to be the reason they get to come out, enjoy the sunshine and smile,” said Hope.
The eye-catching vehicle is a 26-foot-long peanut staffed by Peanutters, Shannon, a.k.a. ShanNut, PistachiOwen, and Nut Sharin’ Erin.
The team will be making appearances at Price Chopper locations in the area. Fans spotting the NUTmobile at one of these events can grab a sample, take a “shell-fie,” and weather permitting, meet Mr. Peanut himself.
