Sen. Ben Sasse says Democrats ‘ridiculously extreme’ on abortion

United States Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) has called out Democrats from Senate floor for their increasingly extreme positions on abortion. The well-respected conservative legislator contrasted how far the Democratic Party has even departed from Hillary Clinton’s former position of, “Safe, legal and rare, and by rare, I mean rare.”

“Planned Parenthood is the country’s largest abortion business. That’s their main staple operation,” Sasse said, referencing the fact the company carried out more than 330,000 abortions in 2018 alone. He also acknowledged that Planned Parenthood president Leana Wen, M.D., describes “providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion” as part of the organization’s “core mission” (a statement she made in January, when she was frustrated to learn the progressive BuzzFeed News wrote a puff piece about Planned Parenthood, attempting to downplay the number of abortions its clinicians routinely commit).

“Today,” the conservative senator explained, “the radical things that the nation’s largest abortion business wants are basically indistinguishable from the position of almost every Democrat running for president: Abortion — anytime, anywhere, for any reason, for free.”

Sasse pointed out the country is pretty evenly split on the issue of abortion and a majority favor at least some restrictions on abortion. He also directly rebuked Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who is, so far, perhaps running the most unsuccessful presidential campaign (she’s currently polling at less than 1 percent).

Earlier this month, Gillibrand tried very hard to make the case that being pro-life and being racist are the same thing. She said, in a completely serious and non-ironic way, that it’s actually immoral to restrict a procedure that terminates the life of another human being.

“Imagine saying that it’s OK to appoint a judge who’s racist, or anti-Semitic, or homophobic,” she told the Des Moines Register. “Asking someone to appoint someone who takes away basic human rights of any group of people in America. … I don’t think those are political issues anymore.”

Those seeking to protect the unborn, she added, are really just trying to “impose their faith” on every citizen in the United States.

“Perhaps,” Sasse said, “in the senator’s next interview, my colleague will suggest that pro-life Americans belong in a ‘basket of deplorables.’”

The Republican went on to note the nefarious racial manipulation that has always been at the core of Planned Parenthood’s efforts. Sasse noted that “black women in America are three-and-a-half times more likely to have an abortion than white women.”

“In some parts of Senator Gillibrand’s home state, black children are actually more likely to be aborted than to be carried to term,” he added.

Moving forward, Sasse urged his progressive colleagues to spend less time trying to outdo one another by working overtime to utter “ridiculously extreme clickbait things for a high propensity primary voter” and more time “listening to the voices of their pro-life fellow citizens.”
